Real Madrid officially announced, a short while ago, the call for new elections to elect a new president and board of directors, for the first time in 16 years.
The last time internal elections were held at Real Madrid, was in 2006, when Ramon Calderon was elected president of the club to replace Florentino Perez, who resigned at the time.
Real Madrid published an official statement on its official website confirming that based on today's board meeting, it has been decided to open the door for candidacy for elections for a board of directors and a new president.
Vicente Boloda is the only competitor to Florentino Perez for the presidency of Real Madrid, especially since he also took over the presidency of the royal club in a temporary period.
Real Madrid indicated that Florentino Perez, its current president, intends to run for a new term, in front of his rivals.
Florentino Perez won the presidency of Real Madrid by acclamation in 2013 and 2017, especially since no one appeared before him to compete for the president's seat.
Real Madrid said in a statement: "After the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, and in accordance with Article 38, Section (B) of the Internal Regulations of Real Madrid, the President requested the Electoral Council to initiate the procedures of calling the presidential and board of directors elections."
According to ABC newspaper, Real Madrid is calling for elections, and Florentino Perez is the only guaranteed candidate for the 2021-2025 presidential elections. She indicated that there are names that Enrique Riquelme and Vicente Polloda have appeared in recent months, but they are considering running in four years, not now.
The last vote at Real Madrid was in 2006, Florentino Perez was the only candidate in 2009, 2013 and 2017.
