Afghan President Muhammad Ashraf Abdul Ghani accused the Taliban movement of being behind an attack that left dozens dead and wounded in a car bomb near a police headquarters in Herat province, west of Afghanistan.
The Afghan President said in a statement issued by his office, according to what was reported by the Afghan (Khama Press) news agency, "The Taliban killed last night with a car bomb detonation of a number of our countrymen, including children and women, and destroyed a number of residential homes."
"By continuing the Taliban's illegal war and violence against the people, it shows once again that it is not only unwilling to solve the current crisis peacefully, but also complicates the situation," he said.
The Afghan president added that "the Taliban are wasting time and any opportunity for peace," adding that the Taliban and their supporters must understand that with such attacks on civilians and public facilities, they will gain nothing but the hatred and revulsion of people.
Seven people were killed and at least 50 others were injured, most of them women and children, in a car bomb explosion last night near a police station in Herat province, western Afghanistan.
Afghanistan suffers from such repeated attacks as a result of its battles with the Taliban, despite entering into peace talks. At the end of February of last year, the United States and the Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan within 14 months and the start of an inter-Afghan dialogue after a prisoner exchange deal.
